Mellifera Mellifera Queen Mated- Apis Mellifera Mellifera
About Apis Mellifera Mellifera
Mellifera Mellifera are a dark stocky bees, they are often referred to as the European dark bee of the British Black bee.
The colonies can build up quite big and whilst the bees are generally quiet on the comb it is said they run more than other races. The bees temperament can be affected quite a lot by the weather and the situation in the colony.
Queen Qualities - AMM bees generally produce whiter cappings then other races but capping colour is also dependent on what the bees have been foraging on.
Brood rearing generally starts early in spring; they have a much lower tendency to swarm and they are very good at defending the nest against pests i.e. the wasps!
Mellifera Mellifera are not a race that are inclined to rob its neighbouring hives. They have excellent flight strength even in cold weather with a strong drive to bring in pollen. It is said that the workers and queens have a longer life than other races. Colony handling and tempement are greatly affected by the weather and forage.
These F1 AMM Queens are bred by our Greek breeders. All our Mated Queens are naturally open mated and marked. They are sent out in queen travel and introduction cages with attendant workers.
