Mated Buckfast Queen - Apis Mellifera Buckfast

The Buckfast bee bred from the best quality mating stock. Colours of F1 buckfast queens can vary from very light to stripy to very dark. They are a prolific race but with a lower swarming instinct. The buckfast has gentleness to them and a high resistance to diseases. They are generally not big producers of propoli. They over winter very well using less honey stores.

The buckfast as a boundless capacity for foraging and build up rapidly in the spring. They maintain a strong colony during the summer and their gentle manner allows the beekeeper to work with minimal use of smoke even opening the hive in bad weather.

Swarming is one of the biggest challenges we face as beekeepers. Even with a high quality buckfast queen like this with a very low swarming instinct it would be a mistake to assume that they wont swarm. There simply isnt a bee with no swarming instinct at all. These mated queens are bred by our EU breeders, they naturally open mated and come come marked.

About delivery & Ordering

First mated queens are available from mid April onwards. Whilst we will do our best to send the queens the week you request, we cannot always guarantee this however we will inform you of any delays by email. Dispatch of your order will be sent by email so you know your order is on it way to you.

These queens are usually sent out on a mid week but it can vary.

NOTE - Guaranteed next day means you will get your queen the day after we post it not the day after you order it. It is also a service you need to sign for or the post man will take it back to the depot.

A queen that is found dead on arrival will only be replaced if we are contacted immediately on the day you receive it, either by email or telephone. We may request you return it to us, replacement will not be made if the cage as been opened or tampered with. We will replace a dead queen once only, no refunds will be offered.
