Beekeeping Introduction Course
We run 1 day beekeeping courses that will provide you with the necessary knowledge to decide if beekeeping is something that is right for you.
The day starts at 10am and ends around 4pm and is broken up into 4 sections, please note we may the sessions around from the schedule below:
Morning session 1:
- History of Beekeeping
- Life Cycle of the Honey Bee, the 3 Castes
Morning Session 2
- Equipment & Clothing
- Colony Management
Afternoon session 1
- Practical Honey Bee Handling and Hive Inspection
- Swarm Control
Afternoon Session 2
- Pests & Diseases
- Harvest and Winter
All equipment and clothing are provided by us but if you do have your own bee suit you are welcome to wear it so long as it is clean (wash in washing soda). Do bring you cameras with you so that you can take photos. You will need to wear suitable footwear, either walking boots or Wellington's is best. Please bring you own packed lunch, tea and coffee and soft drinks will be provided.

We need full classes to run the course. In the event that the course is not full we reserve the right to change the date.
If the forecast is not good enough for us to open the hives we will re-schedule your course date. If the weather turns foul on the actual day so that we can't open the hives we will invite you back to do the hands on part of the course another day.
In the unlikely event that we don't have enough participants to run the course we will ask you to change your booking day.
